Here is the work that I was talking about in my Journal a few weeks ago. This is a huge project I've been working on at work.
It's 2mx2.5m (6.5'x8.2' Which is just huge to work with.
I work for Kiwibank, (yes a bank!) and they've commissioned artists from the head office to create works for the meeting rooms. We had 'focus groups' where random people were selected came up with what they'd like to see on the meeting room walls. From there artists were selected, and given the task of creating work for 6 of the main meeting rooms.
Myself, Brendan (the organiser of the project) and another lady Catherine did this work for the main meeting room. All the rooms in our head office are named after famous New-Zealanders - the room we work for the 'Rutherford room, named after Ernest Rutherford [link] The Father of nuclear physics.
The cirlce motif on the left is a 'Rutherfordium' named in his honour.
For the background we used photocopied money (notes and coins) and newspaper articles about Kiwibank - on the bottom left they go from bad press, saying it wouldn't work, to the top right, which is about how fa we've come and how we're playing amongst the big boys.
On the bottom right is a mock Tukutuku panel (traditional Maori weaving) more of a close-up version.
For the central image, it is New Zealand, but it is made up entirely of names of people who work within the bank, all handwritten!
My main contributions were the weaved Tukutuku panel and I also wrote around 80% of the names that made up NZ. Phew.
Enjoy.
p.s I'm not really looking for you guys to critique this, it's more so I can share with you what i've been up to creativley in the last few weeks.
Everyone walks up to try and find their name! I keep getting asked "hey do you remember writing FIRST NAME, LAST NAME?" 'Is my name on there?" - Quite amusing. We were quite aware that people would be looking at it closely, so we had to make something that was effective close up and further away.
